Architects' drawing of the proposed centre.
Over three storeys high, it would be the biggest in Europe, and six times the size of Sainsbury's in Kidlington.

PUBLIC MEETING
DIGNITY NOT DETENTION!

7.30 Thursday 2 September 2010
In the Garden Room, Friends Meeting House 43 St. Giles, Oxford OX1 3LW

Speakers: Jacki Esposito, Policy Co-ordinator, Detention Watch Network in the US will speak on Detention Reform and the Search for Alternatives + Eiri Ohtani, Detention Forum in the UK

The Detention Watch Network is a national coalition of organizations working to educate the public and policy makers about the US immigration and deportation system and to advocate for humane reform. The Detention Forum was formed from the Detention Sub Group of the Asylum Rights Campaign in 2009. It provides a space for organizations to come together, discuss and share ideas about how to challenge UK government policy on immigration detention.

The Coalition Against the Bullingdon Immigration Removal Centre was launched in November 2008 to oppose the Government's plan to open a new 800 bed detention centre near Bicester on the grounds that it would be inhumane, costly, and unnecessary.  In June 2010, the Coalition Government put these plans on hold but CABIRC remains committed to opposing any extension of detention in the UK and to campaign for detention reform.
